How to Get Vaccines, Not Just Viagra
Los Angeles Times, 10-19-04

This article is noteworthy for who wrote it. Katharine Greider, author of “The Big Fix: How the Pharmaceutical Industry Rips Off American Consumers,” argues that even if we don’t like it, drug companies “are in it for the dough” and hence can be motivated financially to produce needed vaccines. It’s nice to see even an industry critic recognize that human nature is what it is, that incentives matter, and that the public cannot be expected to finance and control every last aspect of drug development.
